What is an ETF?

An exchange-traded fund (ETF) is an investment fund whose shares trade on an exchange throughout the trading day, similar to individual stocks.

ETFs typically:

  • Hold a basket of securities or other assets
  • Track an index, sector, or strategy
  • Can be bought and sold intraday at market prices

ETF market prices may differ from their net asset value (NAV).
